Metal Roof -
Standing Seam
Standing Seam metal or aluminum roofs are the most popular form of metal roofs. These are typically used in areas with above normal snow conditions and are much more expensive than the conventional roofs. They come in a multiple array of colors and are maintenance free for life.
Standing Seam roofs are customized or designed to the dimensions of a house and usually have a 4-6 week lead time. They are custom made and many of its components are manufactured on site.
Standing Seam roofs are also used to accent main roofs. You can install it over a lower roof, an entry, or any other location of high visibility for cosmetic reasons.
Examples of a standing seam metal roof installation (images below):
Copper Roof
Copper roofs are typically used for small areas. This is also another form of accenting a main roof. A copper roof is all custom made and is designed for its use.
It is typically soldered in placed once assembled. It will change color as it ages and is used over bay windows, small entries or other areas of accenting a house or building.
Extra Options
3 Types of Valleys
When making the decision to install a new roof you also have a close on the type of valley and product you can use. The most common valley is a weaved valley.
This is when we run the shingles up to 3 feet under one another up the valley, layering one over the other, thus creating a double layer system.
Then we have a California cut, also know as, a French cut valley. This is typically used on an architectural roof and has only one basic layer and the second layer is cut in a straight line from the bottom of the valley to the top.
Metal Open Valley
A more decorative valley would be an open metal valley.
This is when the shingle never actually crosses the valley but is cut about 3” from the center of the valley on each side. This is done by laying Ice & Water in the valley and then installing the metal over it in the valley. We do this using a hook strap system to allow for contraction and expansion of the metal.
