The most important part of any paint job is the preparation.  If the preparation is not performed correctly then any top coat applied will fail primarily.  Here are some tips on deciding what may be needed to properly paint your home and how to perform the paint application process.

 

 
Prior to starting an exterior paint job we must first evaluate the condition of the house and ask the following questions:

 

1. How old is the house?

2. What type of paint was used on the last paint job; oil, stain or latex paint?

3. Does the house have adequate ventilation?

4. Is there a mold or mildew problem?

5. Is the existing paint peeling and creating an alligator look?

6. Is the existing paint cracking?

7. Do you have any rotted wood on the house?

The above criteria will play a role in determining what type of preparation will be needed.  It could be as easy as a simple pressure wash, or as intricate as a full strip down to the bare wood.

Shutters and Doors
Shutters and entry doors are a good way to accent a house.  We recommend a different color for these two items.

 

Windows
Older windows may require glazing.  If the glazing is cracked and coming loose, we recommend that it be scraped-out and re-glazed.  Then we will apply a coat of primer and a coat of finish paint.
