The above criteria will play a role in determining what type of preparation will be needed. It could be as easy as a simple pressure wash, or as intricate as a full strip down to the bare wood. Prior to starting an exterior paint job we must first evaluate the condition of the house and ask the following questions:

• How old is the house?
• What type of paint was used on the last paint job; oil, stain or latex paint?
• Does the house have adequate ventilation?
• Is there a mold or mildew problem?
• Is the existing paint peeling and creating an alligator look?
• Is the existing paint cracking?
• Do you have any rotted wood on the house?
